"The Natural world is the source of our being as earthlings and the life-giving nurishment of our physical, emotional, aesthetic, moral and religious existence.  The natural world is the larger sacred community to which we belong.  To be alienated from this community is to become desititute in all that makes us human.  To damage this community is to diminish our own existence."

Father Thomas Berry

In June 2008, OCICE held a press conference, asking all OC Houses of Worship to show that they care about Creation, by signing the Creation Protection Agreement. The Agreement, written by OCICE Board and Committee Members, asks Clergy to make changes in their houses of worship, to reduce their energy and water use, use non-toxic cleaning supplies, and non-toxic landscaping methods, to name a few. The Agreement also asks Clergy to teach their congregation about the importance of being Stewards of the Earth.

If you or your House of Worship is interested in participating in this campaign, please visit our Creation Care page to learn more.

Press Release

OCICE featured in the Orange County Register!

Mountaintop removal mining and coal removal have destroyed rivers and streams with waste from destructive mining practices.  In past years a Clean Water Act rule clearly prevented this.  A few years ago, without Congressional approval, the rules were altered to make it easier for coal companies to dispose of their mining debris - right into the streams that feed our rivers and our drinking water supplies. The Clean Water Protection Act would turn the tables back and restore the protections that were taken away.  Help us get the message to Congress that we will not stand for coal companies to pollute our water. Sign the petition today!
