OCICE is embarking on a new campaign; the campaign to have every house of worship install solar
panels!
As a start to this new campaign, OCICE teamed up with California Interfaith Power and Light on Thursday, February 9, 2012 to bring Orange County Houses of Worship the first ever “Solar Nights” educational seminar.
Thanks to Deborah DeMeo Strunk and Allis Druffle for coordinating this incredibly successful event, with over 45 attendees. Read Deborah’s comments below.
The OCICE/CIPL energy efficiency and solar energy workshop was a wonderful success! Including the speakers and our OCICE team, we had about 47 people in attendance. The participants represented at least 20 different houses of worship, from at least 5 major faith traditions. Allis Druffel of California Interfaith Power and Light did a marvelous job of assembling six dynamic and informed speakers, and as a result, we had a lively question and answer session to close the evening.
It was apparent that the workshop had attracted many decision makers from houses of worship, who are poised to take action. CIPL’s resources, Allis’ leadership, and OCICE’s long-standing involvement in this area were key to engaging these faith leaders. Let’s hope that we get to see more houses of worship go solar in 2012!
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Allis, Rev. Mike Holland and Church of the Foothills, and the OCICE team (and their family members) in attendance: Margaret Henke, Sylvia Walker, Margaret Mapes, Gloria Wildman, Bob Siebert, Sheia Claus, Matt Howard, Matt Royster, and Dean Inada. Without all your support, behind the scenes efforts, and dedication to the spirit of faith, creation care, service and hospitality, this wouldn’t have been possible.
With joy,
Deborah Strunk
